PhD examination

In February 2018, my paintings were examined as per the requirements for a PhD by Major Studio Project at the University of South Australia. Result pending. My studio space at the city campus showcased my 42 journals and various experimental approaches to place. My initial forays used moving dioramas to investigate 'stories' of place, but these proceeded to a selective room to room surveys of domestic settings. My studies were valuably informed by the theories found in human geography, for it made sorting of wicked problems, concerning the representation of place, possible.

The Art and Place Research Group formed in 2017.

We are interested in considering the widest possible understandings of place. There are numerous skills, knowledge and approaches we are using to study our independently chosen locations. We participate in discussions and field trips to extend our understandings of how the artist can bring to form the complexities of place. The capacity to triangulate information, as a group, is useful for us when considering aspects of place.
