Henry and the Older Girls, 1997, silver gelatine print.
My earliest arts education began in 1996, learning Art Photography. Evening courses were attended at the North Adelaide School of Art, Croydon TAFE and later I was one of the five foundation students at The Centre for Creative Photography, Stepney, set up by Gavin Blake. I was fortunate to participate in my first exhibition in 1998, a solo show as it turned out, Sue Michael: Domestic Photographer.

Dog Washing Day, 1997, silver gelatine print.

Monster Terrier, 1998, silver gelatine print.

Alexandra Street, 1998, type C photograph.

My Backyard, 1999, type C photograph.

Broadview Blossom, home made camera lens.

Albany Landscape, 2004, acrylic on canvas, 60 x 100cm. My earliest paintings were quire abstract, and made use of collaged photographic pieces prior to painting. I sold many small abstract works at this time, and there are a few larger paintings that I donated to housing projects for the homeless in the city.

Brisbane, 2006, acrylic on canvas, 90 x 150cm. I was flown to Brisbane to complete a painting for a law firm. I spent the day I a taxis sketching and photographing…as I could not walk far at the time. My 100’s of photographs were collaged together prior to painting.

Hong Kong Pharmacy, 2004, acrylic on canvas, 120 x 150cm. I bought an overhead projector around this time. My father-in-law’s holiday photos from the 70’s were referenced in that series of paintings.

Three panels were made of the City of Adelaide. Each panel is 120 x 150cm.

Making Chocolate Crackles, 2003, acrylic on oil sketch, 45 x 60cm. I returned to fluid observations of everyday life following my experimentations with the overhead projector.

Regency Rd. Rider, 2006, acrylic on canvas, 60 x 90cm.

Eudunda Back Yard, 2006, acrylic on canvas, 60 x 90cm.

Enfield Orchid Show, 2007, acrylic on canvas, 60 x 90cm.

Backyard tree shadows, 2006, Lino relief print, 7.5 x 15cm. I have made hundreds of linocuts. People do not often see them. Strangely enough I prefer to be photorealistic in my Lino images. I developed many simple printmaking techniques that would allow me to continue them at home without a press. It is a secret side to my art practice that not many know about.

Nailsworth Blossom Front Yard, 2004, lithograph on Magnani paper.

Zu Hausen, Artist’s Book series, 2004, lithographs on Magnani paper.

Prize Winning Morning Tea Tray, Enfield Horticultural Society, 2009, 2018, acrylic on on Arches Huile paper, 60 x 130cm.

In the early 2000’s I was studying full-time at Art school, and a volunteer in ICU on Sundays. I was teaching art at the local primary school and was also involved in local governance groups. There were few art employment opportunities so a returned to hospital settings where I sorted and washed instruments while my children completed their schooling. I later returned to art studies in 2012.

Enfield Bird Fanciers Show, 2018, acrylic on Arches Huile paper, 60 x 130cm. These works were completed during a year at the TURPS Correspondence Course from London. I roamed the district and reviewed my photographic image bank to find poetic scenes of everyday life to paint. Despite the low level of support in Adelaide, I received tremendously valuable feedback from London.

With Works to be examined for my PhD, 2018 University of South Australia.
